I’ve worn 9PM Rebel on and off for more than seven months, and it has become the bottle I reach for when the night calls for something sweet that doesn’t feel heavy: a dinner, a party, a night out with the temperature dropping. This Afnan 9PM Rebel review is about that use, with the dose I apply, how long it lasted on my skin, and the situations where I stopped wearing it.
Rebel is Afnan’s 2024 take on one of the most copied recipes of the decade: Aventus pineapple on top, the sweet trail of Baccarat Rouge 540 underneath, at about $42 for 100 ml. On Fragrantica it holds 4.30 across 3,869 votes. On Reddit it gets 290-point threads, and it also gets another kind of thread, about weak batches and fake bottles. Because of those, seven months with one bottle are worth more than the average of the votes.
Final score: 7.5 out of 10 on the SS Tested scale. Very good on a cold night. Out of the office, by my own choice.

Quick take
- For anyone who wants a sweet, fruity scent with a nighttime lean, strong projection, and a low price.
- Best use: a cold night, a dinner, a party. Three sprays about 30 minutes before leaving.
- Longevity on my skin: 6 to 10 hours at that dose, with a real risk of waking up with it. That matches the 77% of Fragrantica voters who call it long lasting; the Reddit threads about weak performance did not happen with my bottle.
- Stays home: work and the office, because the projection reaches the people next to you; serious heat, with a caveat.
- Score: 7.5 / 10.

Scent profile
Fragrantica’s pyramid: pineapple, Granny Smith apple and mandarin on top; oakmoss, cedarwood and vanilla in the heart; dry woods, ambergris, caramel and musk in the base. The most voted accords are fruity, sweet and woody, followed by tropical, fresh and mossy.
On my skin it is sweet and fruity from start to finish, and only slightly cloying when the dose is right. With three sprays nobody complains. With more, the caramel in the base starts to wear on you, and Fragrantica says the same: “cloying if you overspray” is the most voted con on the page (191 agree, 73 disagree). To me it is unisex in use, even though the gender votes lean male (1,200 “more male” and 820 “male,” against 493 “unisex”).
Top: pineapple
The pineapple is the reason Rebel exists. Juicy, a little tart from the green apple, and realistic enough to be the most voted pro on the Fragrantica page (384 agree, 18 disagree). It doesn’t lead for long: within half an hour it is sharing the stage with what comes next.
Heart: oakmoss and cedar
This is the surprise for anyone expecting fruit only. The oakmoss comes in dry, a little bitter, and it is what makes the Aventus comparison make sense. Among Fragrantica members, one complains that once the pineapple dries down, what is left is moss; another wrote that the woods felt out of place in the first minutes and came back half an hour later to say they had settled. On my skin the moss never takes over. It is what keeps the sweetness in check.
Base: caramel, ambergris and musk
The base is the Baccarat Rouge part of the story: caramel, a slightly salty amber and musk, warm and sweet. It is what hangs in the air when you walk by and what people notice in the first hour. It is also the divisive part: for most it is the reason for the compliments; for a minority on Fragrantica it reads as synthetic up close, and one member who likes the fragrance says the compliments only come after a few hours, once the opening is gone.

Performance
My dose is three sprays, one on each wrist and one on the neck, about 30 minutes before leaving. With that it projects very well in the first hour, strong enough for the whole table to notice, and then settles closer to the skin. And it stays: on my skin it lasts 6 to 10 hours without effort, and there is a real risk of waking up with it. It covers the dinner, the party and the ride home.
That matches Fragrantica, where 77% say it is long lasting or “eternal” (2,040 of 2,651 votes) and “10+ hours of longevity” is one of the most voted pros (188 agree, 30 disagree). On projection I also side with the majority: 71% vote strong or enormous (1,879 of 2,654), and that is what I get in the first hours.
Reddit explains why a share of wearers disagree. In an r/PerfumeIndia thread, one user separated the two things: Rebel’s loud phase lasts about two hours, then the base sits close to the skin for much longer, and people who say the perfume disappeared are usually talking about projection. Another, on r/fragranceclones, points out that ambergris and oakmoss tire the nose quickly, so you stop smelling your own fragrance before other people do. Both match what I live: the phase where the whole table notices is the first few hours; what is left afterward is a close-to-skin scent, but it is there, into the next morning.
People who spray their clothes tell a different story, in both places: the base stays on a shirt until the next day, and even through a wash. I spray skin, and my numbers are skin numbers.
The other Reddit topic is the batch. Of the 11 threads I read, the two biggest about performance are complaints: one, with 47 comments, says Rebel “is not performing at all” from a bottle bought as genuine; another, that the June 2026 batch smells different from the decant the person already had. On Fragrantica, a member with an April 2026 bottle also found it weak and was waiting for maceration to fix it. I have no way to test other batches. What I can say is that my bottle, after seven months of wear, still delivers the 6 to 10 hours I described, and never vanished in minutes the way those threads describe.

Where it works
| Situation | Match |
|---|---|
| Dinner on a cold night | Perfect |
| Party, club | Perfect |
| Evening date | Very good |
| Cold day, casual plans | Good, with the dose under control |
| Office, work | Not recommended: the first hours’ projection reaches the people next to you |
| Summer, serious heat | With a caveat: for me it wants cold weather; the community is split |
| Gym | No |
Work is out by my own decision. The scent doesn’t fit a meeting room, and the projection of the first hours reaches whoever sits next to you. On Fragrantica most voters disagree that it is inappropriate for the office (63 agree, 123 disagree), and on Reddit someone says they wear it to work and get compliments, right next to someone calling it “too strong for an office job.” My reading: one spray could work, but there are better choices for that, and they are in the best office colognes guide.
In the season votes Rebel is balanced (spring 2,200, winter 2,100, fall 2,100, summer 1,900), unlike the original 9PM, which is a winter and night fragrance. On my skin it is better in the cold, because the sweet base gets heavy in the heat. The community doesn’t settle it: “too sweet in extreme heat” has more disagreements than agreements on Fragrantica (107 against 167), one member at 36 °C (97 °F) thought the opening smelled like rotten pineapple, and on Reddit “no way this is summer friendly” sits in the same thread as “it’s perfectly wearable in summer.”
For the night, it talks to what we have already ranked. The original 9PM is in the best date night colognes guide, the best winter colognes guide and the best cologne gifts for him; Rebel is the fruitier version, more open to the whole year. If you want the Aventus DNA for less, three options are compared in the best dupes for Creed Aventus, and for the Baccarat Rouge 540 side, the best dupes for Baccarat Rouge 540.

The detailed score (SS Tested methodology)
Seven criteria, 0 to 10, with different weights. The longevity score comes from wear on my own skin, at the dose described above. How we score.
| Criterion | Weight | Score | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scent Quality | 25% | 7.5 / 10 | 1.875 |
| Situation Fit | 20% | 7 / 10 | 1.40 |
| Longevity | 15% | 8.5 / 10 | 1.275 |
| Projection / Sillage | 15% | 8 / 10 | 1.20 |
| Value | 10% | 8 / 10 | 0.80 |
| Versatility | 10% | 6 / 10 | 0.60 |
| Originality | 5% | 7 / 10 | 0.35 |
| Weighted total | 100% | 7.50 / 10 |
On the scores
Longevity 8.5 is the highest score in the table: 6 to 10 hours on skin with three sprays, with a real risk of waking up with it. None of the performance complaints going around Reddit happened with my bottle.
Versatility 6 is the lowest, and it explains the review. Rebel does one thing very well, the cold night, and I took work and serious heat off the list. What is left is good, but it is a slice.
Situation Fit 7. On a cold night, at dinner and at a party it fits well; it loses a point because in the first hours it reaches the table before you do, and at a small table that calls for one spray less.
Originality 7. Everyone compares it to Aventus and Baccarat Rouge 540, and the comparison is fair. On Fragrantica, the fragrance most voted as similar is another clone, Lattafa Qaed Al Fursan (619 agree, 121 disagree). Even so, the whole, sweet pineapple over moss and caramel, reads as its own thing in wear.
Value 8. About $42 for 100 ml with this projection. Fragrantica agrees: 2,086 votes of good or great value, against 87 of overpriced.
What wearers say
On Fragrantica, 84% of reactions are positive: 2,300 “love” and 938 “like,” against 349 “ok,” 189 “dislike” and 130 “hate.” The most voted pros are the realistic pineapple opening (384 agree, 18 disagree), the strong projection (356/13), the value (346/9) and the quality finish for a clone (238/14). The cons, apart from “cloying if you overspray,” have more disagreements than agreements: “redundant if you own Qaed Al Fursan” (61/119), “not office appropriate” (63/123) and “too loud indoors” (54/112).
On Reddit, the 11 threads I read add up to 494 comments with text. The biggest, on r/fragranceclones, has 290 points and 80 comments. Seven of the eleven are from Indian subreddits, where heat and humidity are the rule, and that weighs on the performance complaints. The topics that come up most are counterfeits and where to buy (20 mentions), batches (19), the pineapple (18) and the heat (16).
What they praise:
- The pineapple opening, described as juicy, realistic and mouth-watering.
- The projection of the first hours, “beast mode” in more than one thread, with compliments from strangers. One Fragrantica member says they stopped a young man on the street to ask what he was wearing.
- The idea of an Aventus and a Baccarat Rouge 540 in the same bottle, which for several members works for real.
- The price: buying Rebel instead of the two originals, by one member’s count, saves close to $870.
- The versatility for younger wearers: school, dates, nights out; “perfect for teenagers” shows up as praise.
What they criticize:
- The sweetness gets tiring past three or four sprays, and indoors it can bother people.
- The base reads as synthetic to some members, who mention the same feeling as the BR540 clones.
- Performance varies: some report one hour on skin and some 14, and the batch enters the conversation almost every time.
- The heat: at 36 °C (97 °F) one member got rotten pineapple in the opening; on Reddit, “cloying and a headache in summer” shares space with “it’s a spring and summer scent.”
- For anyone who already owns Qaed Al Fursan or Supremacy Collector’s Edition, Rebel may be redundant; for others, it beats both.
Three accounts that sum up the page, paraphrased:
A Fragrantica member (October 2026): in the time they wore Rebel daily, it was the fragrance people asked about the most; they describe it as two fragrances in one, Baccarat Rouge 540 with Aventus, and say the blend works instead of feeling like a rough attempt at either.
Another (September 2026): noticeable projection in the first two to four hours and 7 to 14 hours on skin in total; for them the fragrance is underrated “for the right people.”
A third (September 2026), disappointed: it reminded them of Aventus mixed with an Armaf, and it lasted one hour on their skin; they planned to let the bottle rest and revisit the opinion in the spring.
The seven-year-old critic
The test that wasn’t in the script happened at home. My seven-year-old daughter loves how Rebel smells and, when I wear it, wants to stay right next to her dad. It is worth what it is worth as data, and it says something about the fragrance: sweet, fruity and easy to like, at any age.
Afnan 9PM Rebel review: the verdict
9PM Rebel delivers what it promises at a price where it is hard to go wrong: a sweet, fruity scent with a nighttime lean, strong projection in the first hours, and even better in the cold. On my skin it lasts 6 to 10 hours with three sprays: dinner, party and, fairly often, the next morning. Anyone who runs from sweet will be disappointed.
I recommend it to anyone who wants this profile without paying for an Aventus or a Baccarat Rouge 540. I leave it home on workdays. 7.5 out of 10, and the bottle stays in the rotation. To buy the 100 ml bottle: Check price on Amazon.

FAQ
How long does Afnan 9PM Rebel last?
On my skin, 6 to 10 hours with three sprays, with strong projection in the first hours and close to the skin after that; waking up with it still on my neck happens often. On Fragrantica, 77% of 2,651 votes call it long lasting or “eternal.” On Reddit the reports range from one hour to 14, and the bottle’s batch comes up in almost every performance discussion.
Is 9PM Rebel a clone of Creed Aventus?
It is a hybrid. The pineapple-and-oakmoss opening recalls Aventus; the caramel, amber and musk base recalls Baccarat Rouge 540. On Fragrantica, the fragrance most voted as similar is Lattafa Qaed Al Fursan (619 agree, 121 disagree); Aventus itself gets more disagreements than agreements (84 against 115). Three Aventus dupes are compared in the best dupes for Creed Aventus guide.
What is the difference between 9PM and 9PM Rebel?
The original 9PM, from 2020, is apple, cinnamon and lavender over vanilla, tonka and amber, and Fragrantica reads it as a winter and night fragrance (13,400 winter votes against 3,100 for summer; 12,300 for night against 5,600 for day); the fragrance it most resembles is JPG Ultra Male. Rebel, from 2024, swaps the apple and cinnamon for pineapple and oakmoss and splits evenly across the seasons. The original is in the best date night colognes guide and the best winter colognes guide.
Can you wear 9PM Rebel to work?
I don’t: the scent doesn’t fit a meeting room, and the projection of the first hours reaches the people around you. On Fragrantica, most voters disagree that it is inappropriate for the office (63 agree, 123 disagree). If you do, one spray. For the office, the picks in the best office colognes guide were chosen for their controlled projection.
Is 9PM Rebel unisex?
Fragrantica lists it “for women and men,” and the gender votes lean male (1,200 “more male,” 820 “male,” 493 “unisex,” 76 toward female). In wear I consider it unisex: it is sweet and fruity, and the woody side stays in the base.
